Marbury's career day leads Falcons to 76-62 win over Flagler

HOW IT HAPPENED

Montevallo senior Tazz Marbury and sophomore Tighe Oberg set new career highs in scoring to lead the Falcons to a 76-62 win on the road at Flagler in conference play.

The Falcons raced out to a 18-7 lead in the first seven minutes of play following a 3-pointer by Marbury with 13:11 left in the first half.

A layup by Talan Whitaker with 5:56 remaining in the opening half gave Montevallo a 30-16 advantage, which gave the Falcons their largest lead in the first half.

A jumper by Ben Bobbitt with 39 seconds remaining in the first half trimmed the Montevallo lead to 38-26 heading into the locker room at halftime.

Montevallo extended its lead back to 14 points following a free throw by Whitaker with 17:45 remaining in the game, which gave the Falcons a 45-31 lead.

A jumper by Vaughn McCall helped the Saints trim the deficit to 51-47 with 13:17 left in the game before the Falcons responded with a 12-6 run over the next seven minutes. A three-point play by sophomore Tony Bagtas with 7:42 remaining in the contest pushed the Falcons' lead back to double digits at 63-53.

Montevallo managed to keep the lead in double digits for the final seven minutes in the game, with Oberg contributing six of his career-high eight points down the stretch.

STAT OF THE GAME

Senior Tazz Marbury scored a career-high 19 points on a nearly flawless effort with 8-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. He finished one rebound shy of his first career double-double with a career-best nine boards.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will continue their road trip Monday, Jan. 16 with a Peach Belt Conference contest in Aiken, South Carolina against USC Aiken. Tip off is set for 3:30 p.m. Eastern/2:30 p.m. Central.
