HOW IT HAPPENED

Montevallo couldn't overcome a double-digit deficit at halftime in a 65-51 setback on the road at Georgia College in Peach Belt Conference action.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 8-5 lead following a pair of free throws by junior Jamaar Taylor with 15:30 remaining in the first half.

The Bobcats responded 21-8 run over the 12 minutes and took their first double-digit lead on a 3-pointer by Mark McCorkle with 4:39 left in the opening half, which gave Georgia College a 26-16 advantage.

Georgia College led by as many as 14 points in the first half following a putback dunk by Isaac Thomas with 25 seconds remaining in the half before senior Talan Whitaker made a layup with six seconds left to trim the Bobcats' lead to 34-22 heading into the locker room at halftime.

Thomas led Georgia College with 14 points on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting from the field in the opening half.

The Bobcats extended their lead to 15 points early in the second half following a dunk by Thomas with 17:08 remaining in the game, which gave Georgia College a 43-28 advantage.

The Falcons managed to trim the deficit to single digits with 7:59 left in the second half following a pair of free throws by senior Kevin Kelly, which cut the Georgia College lead to 53-44.

However, Thomas converted a three-point play on the other end with 6:56 remaining in the game to push the Bobcats' lead back to double-digits. Georgia College led by as many as 17 points in the final minutes following a free throw by Austin Dukes, which gave the Bobcats a 65-48 advantage with 1:02 left in the contest.

Thomas finished with a career-high 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor for the Bobcats.

STAT OF THE GAME

The Falcons shot better than 90 percent from the charity stripe for the second time this season after knocking down 18-of-20 attempts from the free-throw line against the Bobcats.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will head to Columbus, Georgia to take on rival Columbus State University in the first of two meetings against the Cougars this season Wednesday, Jan. 25. Tip off at the Lumpkin Center is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern/6:30 p.m. Central.
