HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons and the Nighthawks met in their first of two meetings this season in Peach Belt Conference play.

The Falcons and the Nighthawks both got off to a great start. The Nighthawks led by as many as four points before the Falcons started to come back and took the lead midway through the period.  A 3-pointer from Morgan Smith gave the Falcons a 10-9 lead with 5:33 remaining in the period.  The Falcons largest lead of the period was at five points before the Nighthawks rallied back. North Georgia took the lead late in the period before Ashley Dunstan hit a layup with 34 seconds remaining to tie the game at 19-19.

In the second period, both teams continued to battle down low in the paint.  North Georgia scored 12 points in the paint and outrebounded the Falcons 14-8.  Montevallo entered the break trailing the Nighthawks 34-30.

Dunstan led the team in the opening half with 13 points and 6 rebounds.

The Nighthawks started to pull away in the third period and went on a 15-3 run late in the period.  North Georgia held a 16-point lead after the third period.

Montevallo was unable to mount a rally in the fourth period as North Georgia continued their dominance in the paint, outscoring the Falcons 16-0.  The Nighthawks cruised to an 81-59 victory over the Falcons.

STAT OF THE GAME

Dustan and Smith both scored in double figures for the Falcons.  Dunstan recorded 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Smith accounted for 15 points and 8 rebounds.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will face a quick turnaround when they play host to Clayton State on Monday, January 30th.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
