Montevallo competitive cheerleading adding 13 newcomers

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo competitive cheerleading coach LaToya Williams is pleased to announce the addition of 13 newcomers who will join the Falcons next year.

"We are really excited to have so many new talented members join the team for next season," Williams said. "This program continues to grow each year and I'm thankful to be able to coach this great group of student-athletes in the near future."

Each of the newcomers is profiled below.

MASON BROCKSMITH • Jacksonville, Alabama (Pleasant Valley High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Brocksmith will graduate from Pleasant Valley High School in Jacksonville, Florida in the spring of 2017. He was named the Senior Class Favorite and earned the Spanish Award at Pleasant Valley.

PERSONAL: Brocksmith plans to major in Marketing with a minor in Communications at the University of Montevallo. He is the son of Jonathan and Leslie Bryant, and has one brother, McCain.

MORGAN LEONARD • Clanton, Alabama (Isabella High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Leonard will graduate from Isabella High School in Maplesville, Alabama in the spring of 2017. She was named the Senior Homecoming Queen and Mrs. Isabella High School. Leonard was also the SGA President and Vice President of the Beta Club. She was the External Vice President in the Historical Society and was a member of the Student Ambassador and Leadership Team. She also earned the Good Citizenship Award and was a member of the Bionic Club and the FCA.

PERSONAL: Leonard plans to major in Elementary Education at Montevallo. She is the daughter of Cody and Amy Leonard and has one brother, Brodie, and one sister, Mallory.

CINDY SHELTON • Millbrook, Alabama (Stanhope Elmore High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Shelton will graduate from Stanhope Elmore High School in Millbrook, Alabama in the spring of 2017. She was voted the Varsity Cheer Captain and was a three-time Universal Cheerleaders Association All-American and Staff Selection. Shelton was also an Alabama Girls State Representative. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Science Honors Society and Spanish Honor Society. Shelton was elected treasurer of the Science Honors Society and Mu Alpha Theta and was elected parliamentarian of the National Honor Society.

PERSONAL: Shelton plans to major in Chemistry with a minor in Biology at the University of Montevallo. She is the granddaughter of Donnie and Glenda Shelton and the daughter of Michael Shelton and Donna Krafcheck. She has two brothers, Michael Shelton and Mason Krafcheck.

JACOB FRAZIER • Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Northridge High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Frazier will graduate from Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in the spring of 2017. He was a member of both the varsity cheerleading and tennis teams at Northridge. Frazier was an officer in the Art Club and was named the Most Outstanding English student. He was also named the Student of the Month and was a member of the Homecoming Court. Frazier was also a member of the Tuscaloosa Renegades Cheerleading Club.

PERSONAL: Frazier is undecided on a major at the University of Montevallo. He is the son of Scott Frazier and Pat Curry.

ALLYSA ELLIS • Sardis, Alabama (Sardis High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Ellis will graduate from Sardis High School in Sardis, Alabama in the spring of 2017. She was a SGA representative and was a member of the Senior Beta Club, Junior Civitans, Future Business Leaders of American and Spanish Club at Sardis. She is ranked in the top 20 in her graduating class. She was also named a Universal Cheerleaders Association All-American.

PERSONAL: Ellis plans to major in Biology at the University of Montevallo. She is the daughter of Jaye and Nicole Ellis and has one brother, Colten, and one sister, Katlyne.

MADISON CHASTAIN • Sardis, Alabama (Sardis High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Chastain will graduate from Sardis High School in Sardis, Alabama in the spring of 2017. She was a member of the Senior Beta Club, Junior Civitans, Future Business Leaders of America, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and the Spanish Club.

PERSONAL: Chastain plans to major in Biology at the University of Montevallo. She is the daughter of Robin Chastain and has one brother, Kevin.

KINLEY GRACE BLANKENSHIP • Athens, Alabama (Tanner High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Blankenship will graduate from Tanner High School in Athens, Alabama in the spring of 2017. She earned the Citizenship Award and was the Miss Junior High winner in the school's Beauty Pageant.

PERSONAL: Blankenship is undecided on a major at the University of Montevallo. She is the daughter of Daren Blankenship and Mikki Wooten. She has two brothers, Colby and Josh, and one sister, Jayme.

CARLEE LOYD • Cullman, Alabama (Fairview High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Loyd will graduate from Fairview High School in Fairview, Alabama in the spring of 2017.

PERSONAL: Loyd plans to major in Communications at the University of Montevallo. She is the daughter of Jimmy and Karen Loyd and has one brother, Luke, and one sister, Lynnzee.

VICTORIA GARTH • Athens, Alabama (Tanner High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Garth will graduate from Tanner High School in Athens, Alabama in the spring of 2017. She served as the captain of her squad and was also a member of the track and field team, finishing third in the Class 2A state championship 4x100-meter relay event as a senior. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council along with First Priority. Garth also had the highest grade-point average in History in her class.

PERSONAL: Garth plans to major in Sonography at the University of Montevallo. She is the daughter of Gwen Garth. She has three brothers, Tareck Ruffin, Trickeon Ruffin and JaColby Scruggs, and three sisters, Alexis Garth, Miracle Scott and Zaria Scruggs.

TAYLOR HOOD • Rainsville, Alabama (Plainview High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Hood will graduate from Plainview High School in Rainsville, Alabama in the spring of 2017. She was named an All-American cheerleader by the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and was also an All-County cheerleader. She was also an Americheer International Division Champion and a state runner-up in the Co-Ed Division. Hood also cheered with the ACE Cheer Company in Rainsville.

PERSONAL: Hood plans to major in Biology at the University of Montevallo. She is the daughter of Stacey and Beverly Hood and has two sisters, Kristen and Cassidy.

SARAH SANFORD • Verbena, Alabama (Verbena High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Sanford will graduate from Verbena High School in Verbena, Alabama in the spring of 2017. She was named the Homecoming Queen and Senior Class President. Sanford was also a member of the Beta Club, Future Career and Community Leaders of American and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Sanford was also a Universal Cheerleaders Association Staff Selection.

PERSONAL: Sanford plans to major in Kinesiology at the University of Montevallo. She is the daughter of Robert and Debbie Sanford and has one sister, Hannah.

OLIVIA LOWERY • Montevallo, Alabama (Jeff State Community College/Montevallo High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Lowery graduated from Montevallo High School in Montevallo, Alabama in the spring of 2015. She served as the President of the Future Career and Community Leaders of America and the Yearbook Staff. She will join the Falcons as a transfer from Jeff State Community College.

PERSONAL: Lowery plans to major in Biology at the University of Montevallo. She is the daughter of Paula Lowery.
 

DAKOTA DUBOSE • Montevallo, Alabama (Montevallo High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Dubose will graduate from Montevallo High School in Montevallo, Alabama in the spring of 2017

PERSONAL: Dubose plans to major in Education at the University of Montevallo. She is the daughter of Clifford and April Dubose and has one sister, McKenna Dubose.
