Falcons Fall to West Alabama 2-0 in GSC Play

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by West Alabama in conference play.  The Falcons are now 5-3 on the season and 2-3 in the Gulf South Conference.

The Falcons were unable to overcome a pair of goals from the Tigers.  The first goal was surrendered in the 43rd minute off a penalty kick that was awarded to West Alabama.

Montevallo conceded the final goal of the game in the 76' to the Tigers who scored on a deflected header.

HOW IT HAPPENED

43' | Marie Dreezen scored the opening goal on a penalty kick to give West Alabama the 1-0 lead.

77' | Brianna Forrest gathered in a deflected header and found the back of the net to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

GAME NOTES
  • West Alabama outshot the Falcons 19-12 in the game and placed 11 shots on goal compared to the Falcons six.
  • Montevallo goalkeeper Sydney Young had nine saves on the night and added to her season total which now stands at 37 saves.
  • Taylor Gonzales led the Falcons with three shots in today's game.
  • Allye Darnell, Hannah Waki, and Tylor Ring had two shots each against the Tigers.  Ring placed two shots on frame and Waki was responsible for one.

UP NEXT
The Falcons hit the road for a pair of games this upcoming weekend.  The first will be against Union University on October 6th with kickoff set in that match for 5:00 pm.
