Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Montevallo Edge Shorter 1-0 in Second Meeting between the Sides

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team defeated the Shorter Hawks at Varsity Field to notch their seventh victory of the season.

The Falcons now sit at 6-4-1 on the season and 4-4-1 in Gulf South Conference play.

After a relatively even opening 15 minutes, Montevallo was gifted an opportunity from 12 yards out. Allye Darnell was fouled by an onrushing keeper, Sydney Durham, who clattered into the striker to concede the penalty kick. The penalty was only the second awarded to Montevallo and Sabrina Amador made it the first converted of the season. The junior notched her second goal of the season to go along with an assist on the year.

Shorter offered little response in the first half, and Amberly Halstead's shot was the only shot on goal for the visitors in the opening 45 minutes.

After the break, the Hawks were brighter but the best opportunity of the second half fell to the Falcons. Sabrina Lino's long-range drive was turned over the crossbar by Durham.

Michaila Franklin narrowly missed the upper left corner, but the Falcons did not require a second goal despite a late onslaught of pressure by the visiting Hawks.
