Falcons Sink Argos 2-1 in Final Game of the Regular Season

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team came away with a 2-1 victory over GSC opponent West Florida in the final game of the 2017 regular season.

With the victory, the Falcons locked up the fourth seed in the GSC Men's Soccer Championships to host a first-round game on Tuesday, October 31.

In what turned out to be an action-packed affair on a rainy Saturday in the Florida Panhandle, the Falcons were resilient and didn't let the elements affect their play.

Facing wind gusts up to 20 mph, the Falcons played the first half with the wind in their faces and struggled in the stormy conditions to put the ball on frame.  Montevallo was outshot 13- 3 in the first half and conceded a goal to UWF's Isaiah Lopez in the 31' of play.

Trailing by a goal, the Falcons responded with an equalizer like they have for most of the season. Cesare Marconi took a lob shot into the box after the goalkeeper rushed out to defend him.  The ball took one hop into the goal in the 38' to knot the game at 1-1.

In the second half, the Falcons played with the wind at their backs and took advantage by taking eight shots in the half in an attempt to score a game-winning goal.
Joshua Keller received a deep pass from Nicholas Pekel and scooted a shot past the goalkeeper in the 89' to put the game away.
