RECAP
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball knocked off last year's Gulf South Conference champions in emphatic fashion 80-56 in its first game back in the conference Nov. 29 at Trustmark Arena.
The Falcons (5-3 overall, 1-0 in Gulf South Conference) ran their winning streak to five games.
Montevallo is 5-0 on the season with senior Jamaar Taylor in the lineup, with the Milwaukee, Wisconsin native dropping 31 points in the victory.
Taylor scored 17 points in the opening half. Montevallo led by 17 points at the break, thanks in part to seven made 3-pointers in the first half.
The Falcons did not let up in the second half and senior Jamaar Taylor added 14 second-half points. Montevallo only needed five offensive rebounds all game, but shot magnificently from all areas of the floor. The Falcons only missed one free throw and shot 52 from the floor as well as 48 percent from long range. Montevallo scored 20 points off the Chargers' 15 turnovers and outscored UAH 28-20 in the paint.
The Falcons were relentless on defense and only allowed UAH senior Justin Ward 13 points, well below his 23 point per game average.
