HOW IT HAPPENED

Montevallo saw its season come to an end following a 107-99 setback on the road at Augusta in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinal contest.

Keshun Sherrill knocked down a 3-pointer for the first basket in the game 34 seconds into the opening half and Augusta retained control for the majority of the first half.

A layup by senior Javonte Douglas with 17:20 remaining in the first half gave the Falcons a 6-5 advantage, but it marked the only lead in the game for Montevallo.

The Jaguars led by as many as 14 points in the opening half, the last time on a 3-pointer by Aaron Byrd with 1:42 remaining in the half, before junio Jamaar Taylor answered with a 3-pointer of his own as the Falcons trimmed the deficit to 49-38 heading into the locker room at halftime.

Sherrill finished 5-of-6 from the floor, including 4-of-4 from beyond the arc, and led the Jaguars with 15 points in the opening half. Douglas paced Montevallo with 16 points in the first half on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor.

The Falcons managed to trim the Jaguars' lead to 71-67 following a pair of free throws by Taylor with 10:15 remaining in the game.

Augusta quickly responded with a 10-1 run, capped with a jumper by Sherrill, to push its lead back to double digits. The Jaguars led by as many as 17 points down the stretch before a late push by the Falcons.

A layup by senior Kevin Kelly with 12 seconds remaining in the game cut the Jaguars' lead to 103-99. Augusta knocked down 4-of-4 attempts at the charity stripe in the final 10 seconds to close out the victory.

Sherrill scored a game-high 29 points while also grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out five assists for the Jaguars. Douglas led Montevallo with 26 points and six boards.

STAT OF THE GAME

Augusta outrebounded the Falcons 37-16, which helped the Jaguars score 16 second-chance points compared to the Falcons' seven second-chance points with a 16-6 edge in offensive boards.
