HOW IT HAPPENED
Montevallo picked up its third Peach Belt Conference road victory following a 74-68 win over Georgia Southwestern.
The Falcons went on a 6-0 run early and jumped out to a 13-8 lead following a free throw by senior Talan Whitaker with 9:01 remaining in the opening half.
Georgia Southwestern led by as many as three points late in the first half following a 3-pointer by Devin Watson with 2:55 remaining in the half before the teams headed into the locker room even at 28-28 at the break.
Montevallo opened the second half with a 22-12 run and took its first double-digit lead in the contest following a free throw by senior Tazz Marbury, which gave the Falcons a 50-40 advantage.
The Falcons led by as many as 12 points down the stretch following a three-point play by Marbury, which gave Montevallo a 60-48 lead with 4:42 remaining in the game.
The Hurricanes managed to trim the deficit to 72-68 following a three-point play by Watson with six seconds left in the game, but the Falcons were able to inbound the ball and junior Jamaar Taylor knocked down a pair of free throws to secure the victory.
STAT OF THE GAME
Senior Javonte Douglas recorded his 10th double-double of the season after scoring a game-high 24 points and grabbing a game-best 16 rebounds in the win over the Hurricanes.
UP NEXT
The Falcons will return to action Monday, Feb. 6 with a trip to Young Harris, Georgia to take on Young Harris College in Peach Belt Conference play. Montevallo defeated the Mountain Lions 84-71 in the first meeting between the two teams this season at Trustmark Arena. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern/6:30 p.m. Central.
