HOW IT HAPPENED
Montevallo kept the match close in the first half before Young Harris pulled away in the second half for a 20-9 win over the Falcons in a Gulf South Conference match.
The Mountain Lions scored the first six goals in the game to take a 6-1 lead before Montevallo scored three of the next four goals in the game to trim the deficit to 7-3. Junior Lauren Duckworth, sophomore Lara Schuetz and freshman Meghan Shea scored the three goals for the Falcons.
Young Harris scored scored the next five goals and carried a 12-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Montevallo scored three of the first four goals in the second half, with goals by Duckworth and sophomores Jessica Culver and Jami Hudak, to trim the deficit to 13-6.
The Mountain Lions ran away from the Falcons down the stretch. Culver, Schuetz and Hudak added late goals for Montevallo in the final 10 minutes.
STAT OF THE GAME
Young Harris held a 26-20 edge in shots and a 25-18 edge in shots on goal in the win over the Falcons.
