Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Falcons Defeat North Georgia 1-0

MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- Montevallo men's soccer opened their home schedule with a 1-0 win over former Peach Belt Conference rivals North Georgia.

The Nighthawks and the Falcons played a tightly contested contest, but Montevallo won thanks to a goal late in the first half. Three minutes before the half, a long throw was headed on to Vladik Margolin who buried his first goal past North Georgia's Matt Sharman.

The Nighthawks offered a spirited response in the second half and forced Robert Kuta into eight saves, but did not cause the back line enough trouble to force an equalizer. Both Krener Krasniqi and Cesare Marconi each had a chance at goal in the second half but both came away empty handed.

GAME NOTES

  • -All eight of Kuta's saves were in the second period. Despite outshooting the Falcons, 19 to 16, the Nighthawks were unable to breach the goal.
  • Krenar Krasniqi had a team-leading four shots on goal and Lukas Hauer added three of his own.
  • Montevallo has kept a second clean sheet of the season. Austin Petrovich led a well-organized back line that rarely looked stretched in defense.
  • The Falcons overturned last year's 2-0 loss in Dahlonega with today's lone goal in the non-conference rematch.
