MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team won its second consecutive home match following a 4-1 victory over visiting Spring Hill College and improved to 4-2 overall on the season and .500 in Gulf South Conference play Sept. 24.
After a 2-0 win over non-conference Albany State on Friday night, the Falcons kept the string going with the victory over Spring Hill.
The Badgers won their first game last week against Georgia Southwestern, but were behind inside the opening 10 minutes on the road.
Michaila Franklin and
Hannah Waki made a bright start to the game and the duo linked up to put the Falcons in front 1-0.
After chances for
Kira Bochard and
Taylor Gonzales were kept out by Spring Hill goalkeeper HP Fluharty, the visitors were level against the run of play in the 40th minute. A free kick from Kylee Harrell was headed in by freshman Hannah Fogt, who beat keeper
Sydney Young to the ball. The Badgers leveled the score against the run of play to knot the match at 1-1.
Montevallo offered a spirited response and took back the lead in the closing seconds of the first half. As the final seconds counted down,
Simone Nelson swung in a cross from the left side to
Tylor Ring. The sophomore converted the chance with a header at the far post that hit the back of the net as the time expired.
The Falcons were the dominant team again in the second half and finally got the insurance goal in the 65th minute.
Kristen Chance scored her second goal in two games to put the Falcons ahead 3-1.
Sabrina Amador scored a fourth to add some gloss to the score.
Allye Darnell unselfishly laid the ball off to the midfielder, whose shot went right over the head of the advancing keeper. The Falcons won back-to-back home games for the first time in 2017 and will enter the brunt of Gulf South play on a high note.
