MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team was defeated by the Union Bulldogs 86-56 in Gulf South Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
Montevallo is now 2-17 on the season and 0-11 in Gulf South Conference play.
Montevallo came out in the first period and took control of the game in its early stages. After an opening three-pointer from the Bulldogs, Nautika Philpot tied the game at 3-3 with a three-point jumper of her own. Kourtnie Smith and Kiya Sain each hit baskets on the next possessions for the Falcons who led 7-3 with 7:06 left in the period.
Union went on a 17-3 run in the middle of the opening period to jump out to a 10 point advantage. The Bulldogs held a 24-14 lead after the first period.
The Bulldogs kept on the pressure in the second period and took a 41 -24 advantage into the halftime break.
The Falcons struggled shooting the ball in the third period and were outscored by the Bulldogs 30-13.
Montevallo was able to outscore Union in the fourth period 19-15 as the Bulldogs came away with an 86-56 victory.
