2018 GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team will travel to Clinton, Mississippi to face Mississippi College in a quarterfinal match Tuesday, Oct. 30 in its return to the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
The Falcons made seven appearances in the Gulf South Conference Tournament in their first stint in the conference and earned the eighth bid in program history as the No. 7 seed this season.
Mississippi College earned the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament and will host the quarterfinal match Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. Live video and live statistics links are available at the 2018 Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship website.
The Falcons (8-6-3 overall, 7-5-1 in Gulf South Conference) clinched their spot in the conference tournament following a 2-0 shut out against Delta State University on Senior Day. Montevallo has won two of its past three matches heading into the conference tournament.
The Choctaws (14-2 overall, 12-1 in Gulf South Conference) are ranked No. 18 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Association NCAA Division II rankings and slotted into the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament after falling to the University of West Florida late in the season.
The winner will advance to a conference tournament semifinal match Nov. 2 at Emory Folmar Soccer Complex in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Falcons fell to Mississippi College 2-1 in late October in the regular season meeting between the two teams in Montevallo, Alabama. Freshman Romee Contreras, the Falcons' leading goal scorer this season, netted an early goal and the Falcons led 1-0 until midway through the second half before the Choctaws scored a pair of goals to escape with the victory.
Montevallo owns one conference tournament championship in program history after claiming the Gulf South Conference tournament title in 2007.
