MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team defeated Clark Atlanta University 68-65 in its home opener Nov. 13 at Trustmark Arena.
Clark Atlanta opened the second half with a 12-4 run to take the lead 42-41 following a two-point jumper from Criag Hall.
The Falcons went on a 10-2 run during a five-minute span midway through the second half to turn the one-point deficit into a seven-point lead following a free throw by Senior
De'Marco Owens, which put the Falcons up 51-44.
Clark Atlanta outscored the Falcons 27-21 the rest of the way but the Falcons made 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to hold off the Panthers.
Sophomore
Micah Fuller and Junior
Wade Lowman led the Falcons (2-1) with a team-high 14 points. Lowman shot 6-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the line. Fuller went 5-of-8 from the floor, 2-of-4 from behind the arc and 2-of-2 from the line.
Senior
De'Marco Owens led the Falcons in rebounding for the third consecutive game with a team-high six boards, while also leading the team with four assists.
Montevallo will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico this weekend for the Puerto Rico Clasico DII Basketball Tournament. The Falcons will open the event Friday, Nov. 16 against the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. Central.
