MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team defeated Lee University 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference tournament semifinals to advance to the championship match for the first time in more than a decade.
The Falcons (10-6-3) will face the No. 1 seed University of West Florida in the championship match Sunday, Nov. 4 at 12 p.m. at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex. The Argonauts are ranked No. 2 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Association NCAA Division II national poll.
Freshman Romee Contreras scored the game-clinching goal for the No. 7 seeded Falcons in the 48th minute of the contest.
Freshman Annie Mason registered eight saves against No. 3Â seed Lee, just one shy of her career high.

HOW IT HAPPENED
30' | Freshman goalkeeper Annie Mason made four saves in the first 30 minutes of the contest to keep the Flames off the scoreboard early.
32' | Freshman Medhali Hernandez fired her second shot on frame in the match, but the Falcons' weren't able to get one through for a goal in the opening half.
48' | Freshman Romee Contreras moves the ball 30 yards upfield down the right side before firing a shot over the Lee goalkeeper and into the upper left corner of the net for her 10th goal of the season to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
69' | Mason registered her eighth and final save of the match to keep the Flames from netting the equalizer in the second half.
84' | A shot by junior Victoria Whitehouse hit the crossbar and deflected back into play as the Falcons narrowly missed an insurance goal late in the contest.
GAME NOTES
- The Falcons are advancing to the Gulf South Conference Tournament championship match for the first time since the 2008 season.
- Montevallo finished with a 18-17 advantage in shots attempted, including a 8-7 edge in shots on goal against the Flames.
