- The Falcons continued to dominate the boards, grabbing 42 total rebounds with Kiya Sain leading Montevallo on the boards with nine rebounds.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball program defeated the Shorter Hawks 42-37 in a Gulf South Conference matchup Dec. 17.

Montevallo improved to 7-4 on the season with the victory and 3-1 in conference play.
Â
Montevallo struggled offensively in the win, shooting just 39 percent from the floor and 7.7 percent from the 3-point line. The Falcons held the Hawks to just 28.6 percent shooting from the floor and 16.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Nautika Philpot gave the Falcons their first lead of the game 5-4 at the 7:01 mark in the first period with a 3-pointer, the only made 3-pointer of the game for the Falcons.

Less than three minutes later Kayla Holmes made a layup to retake the lead for Shorter 6-5. Shorter held the lead until the end of the third period when
Savannah Lee made a jumper to give the Falcons a 33-32 advantage.

The Falcons closed out the game on a 9-5 run to clinch the win.

Montevallo will resume conference play on Tuesday, Jan. 3 against Auburn-Montgomery at 6 p.m. in Montgomery.
