MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

•    Sophomore Shelby Lowery finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a triple and drove in one run.

•    Sophomore Mariel Bertossi went 1-for-3 at the plate and scored one run.

•    Sophomore Brianna Stella finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

•    Junior Alexis Bonanno allowed just two hits while striking out two batters in three innings after earning the start in the circle.

•    Junior Amanda Ingram and freshman Mychael McMilan each pitched scoreless outings in relief.

•    Junior Jessica Boyd earned her first save of the season after closing the game.


HOW IT HAPPENED

•    Sophomore Shelby Lowery plated the lone run in the game in the top of the fourth inning with her RBI triple after sophomore Mariel Bertossi reached on a error by the Flames, who were ranked No. 11 nationally in the NFCA Division II preseason poll.

•    Junior Jessica Boyd inherited a jam and pitched her way out of it to earn her first save of the season after pitching the final 1 2/3 innings.

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

•    Senior Celestia Davila finished 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run.

•    Junior Lady Sarah Federico went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run.    

•    Freshman Lauryn Garcia finished 1-for-3 at the plate.    

•    Junior Alexis Bonanno started in the circle and allowed just one earned run on three hits with one strikeout and one walk in 3 1/3 innings.
  

HOW IT HAPPENED

•    Montevallo scored the first run when senior Darbi Duke reached on a walk and stole second base before scoring on an error by the Choctaws in the bottom of the third inning.

•    The Choctaws tied the score at 1-1 with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.   

•    An RBI single by Davila in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning before the Choctaws scored four runs in the final two innings.

•    An RBI single by Federico in the bottom of the seventh inning accounted for the Falcons' final run in the game.


UP NEXT

The Falcons host Tuskegee University in a doubleheader Thursday, Feb. 22 at Orr Park. First pitch in the opener is set for 4 p.m.
