Falcons Get First GSC Win with 24-16 Victory over Lee

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team defeated the Lee University Flames 24-16 in their first GSC victory of the season.
 
Montevallo is now 4-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
 
Janey Johnson recorded her first double hat trick of the season with six goals and also registered six assists to record 12 points in the victory.
 
Nicole Pahnke and Caleigh Spoon each scored five goals for the Falcons. 
 
A total of 10 players scored a goal in today's game for the Falcons.

KEY GOALS

2' | Jami Hudak scored the first goal of the game for the Falcons and was assisted by Janey Johnson.
4'| The Falcons scored two goals in the same minute to take a 3-0 lead over the Flames.  The first was scored on a free position shot by Caleigh SpoonJami Hudak scored her second goal of the game off an assist from Janey Johnson.
28'| Lee capped off a five-goal run late in the first half to take an 8-5 lead over Montevallo.
30'| Janey Johnson found goal to pull the Falcons to within two goals of the lead.  Johnson's goal made it 8-6 in favor of the Flames at the break.
35'| Janey Johnson found goal to draw the game at 9-9 with the Flames.
38'|  Montevallo went on a four-goal run and capped it off with a goal from Janey Johnson to hold a 14-10 advantage over Lee, a lead they would not relinquish.
60'| Montevallo scored its final goal of the match to take a 24-15 lead thanks to Nicole Pahnke who was assisted by Janey Johnson.

GAME NOTES
  • Today's game was a fairly even contest with Lee holding a slight edge in shots taken with a 43-42 advantage.  However, Montevallo held an advantage for shots on goal with a total of 34 compared to Lee's 33.
  • Montevallo registered 17 saves in the game with nine coming in the first half of play and eight in the second half.
  • Lee outhustled the Falcons on defense and held the advantage on ground balls 38-31.  The Falcons also lost the turnover battle 24-18 but were not affected by it during their play in today's game.
