Montevallo Cruises to 18-5 Victory over Emmanuel College

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team defeated the Emmanuel College Lions 18-5.
 
Montevallo's defense held the Lions to just one goal in each period of play except the fourth period when Emmanuel was able to score two goals.
 
Montevallo took an 8-2 lead into the break and then added 10 more goals in the second half with eight of them coming in the fourth period.
 
Thomas Vaesen led the team in goals scored with six and also tallied one assist to notch seven points,  Vaesen also gathered in five ground balls for the Falcons on defense.
 
Kyle Nichols continued his excellent play this season and had five goals for the Falcons.
 
Jackson McKeague also had a hat trick in the game, scoring three times on four shots.
 
JD Cooper, Ryan Shea, and Spencer Seiler also scored goals for the Falcons in the game.

KEY GOALS

 1st, 13:02| Kyle Nichols scored an unassisted goal to open the scoring in the game and gave Montevallo a 1-0 lead.
 
1st, 5:55| With the game tied at 1-1, Thomas Vaesen scored on an assist from Blake Lowenberg to start a five-goal run.
 
2nd, 9:27| Jackson McKeague scored an unassisted goal to cap off the run and give Montevallo a 6-1 lead.
 
2nd, 00:06| Kyle Nichols scored the final goal of the half to put Montevallo on top 8-2.
 
3rd, 9:20| Kyle Nichols scored the first goal of the second half to put the Falcons on top 9-2.
 
3rd, 3:12| Jackson McKeague was assisted by Alex Dozzi to put Montevallo up 10-3 and started a four-goal run for the Falcons.
 
4th, 10:54| Thomas Vaesen scored three straight goals to cap off the Falcons four-goal run and gave the Falcons a 13-3 lead.  Alex Dozzi assisted on all three of Vaesen's goals.
 
4th, 8:04| Montevallo closed out the game with a five-goal run that started with Ryan Shae's unassisted goal to put the Falcons on top 14-5.
 
4th, 00:07| JD Cooper scored off a Bailey Lapinski assist to finish the scoring in the game and gave Montevallo an 18-5 victory.


GAME NOTES
  • Montevallo dominated the game from start to finish on the offensive side of the ball.  The Falcons outshot Emmanuel 44-31 and placed 26 of their shots on goal compared to 14 for the Lions.
  • The Falcons' defense forced the Lions into 28 turnovers in the game and caused six of them. 
  • Montevallo also won 15 faceoffs compared to the Lion's 11.
