Pahnke leads Falcons to 25-13 win over Shorter

ROME, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team defeated Shorter University 25-13 on the road in a Gulf South Conference match March 18.

The Falcons (5-5 overall, 2-2 in Gulf South Conference) jumped out to an early 5-2 lead and held a 13-7 advantage heading into halftime.

Montevallo outscored the Hawks 12-6 in the second half to pull away for the victory.

Freshman Nicole Pahnke led the Falcons with eight goals in the match, which tied the career high she sat earlier this season in a match against Erskine.

Pahnke, who finished with a career-high 11 points, also shared the team lead in assists as she and sophomore Jami Hudak compiled three assists each. Pahnke was also credited with a team-high six ground balls.

KEY GOALS

1st (27:07) | Natalie Dicken gave the Falcons the lead for the first time with her goal off an assist from Jami Hudak, which put Montevallo up 2-1 early in the contest.

1st (22:34) | Janey Johnson scored a goal on a free-position opportunity to give the Falcons an early 5-2 lead.

1st (1:04) | Nicole Pahnke scored her second consecutive goal, which capped a run of four consecutive goals by the Falcons to end the first half.

2nd (25:07) | Meghan Shea scored a goal off an assist from Pahnke, which marked the Falcons' fifth goal of the second half and gave Montevallo a double-digit lead.

2nd (12:27) | Erin Tosh scored her first goal of the contest, which gave the Falcons a 15-goal lead in the match.

GAME NOTES

  • Montevallo dominated the match against the Hawks, with a 46-28 edge in shots attempted and a 30-17 edge in ground balls.
  • The Falcons also controlled 21 draws compared to 16 by Shorter, and only committed 11 turnovers while the Hawks finished with 20 turnovers.
  • Montevallo completed the first half of Gulf South Conference play with a .500 record and will start the second half of the conference season Wednesday, March 21 with a match on the road at Lee University.
