MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Collin Dupree went 3-of-4 from the plate and drove in a run while also scoring a run for the Falcons.
  • Six total Falcons recorded hits in the game with Jason Cryar recording multiple-RBI (2)
  • Cas Silber (3-3) was the starter and was credited with the loss in the game.  Silber recorded eight strikeouts but also allowed 10 hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Union jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the game by plating runs in the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings.  The Bulldogs scored four of their runs in the top of the sixth inning.
  • Montevallo got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning with a pair of runs thanks to Chad Wagner.  Wagner hit a fly ball down the right-field line and a dropped ball by the left fielder resulted in Montevallo pulling the game to 8-2.
  • Union broke the game open in the seventh inning when the Bulldogs plated six runs to take a 14-2 lead.
  • Montevallo came back in the bottom of the seventh inning with three runs of their own.  Collin Dupree singled off the wall with the bases loaded to drive in the first run of the inning.  On the next at-bat for the Falcons, Jason Cryar singled to center field and scored Khari Anderson and John Michael Reed to make it a 14-5 ball game.
  • Union pushed their lead to 18-5 after scoring four runs in the top of the eighth inning.

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Falcons had six players record multiple hits with Mark Castellucci leading the way with three hits in four at-bats. Castellucci also drove in three RBI for the Falcons.
  • Jared Nixon was 2-of-3 on the night and drove in six runs for the Falcons.
  • Tyler Guesnard was 2-of-2 in the game and scored a run for Montevallo.
  • Alex Pondick (2-0) got the start for Montevallo and pitched six innings and allowed just one run while striking out six batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montevallo jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.  Jared Nixon plated the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly into left field to score Sebastian Samuels.  Mark Castellucci had a two-RBI single into centerfield and Collin Dupree had an RBI single to finish out the inning.
  • Union scored a run in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 4-1 ball game.
  • Montevallo scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 8-1.  Chad Wagner entered the game to pinch hit and drove in the fifth run for the Falcons on an RBI single into shallow centerfield to give the Falcons a 5-1 lead.  Later in the inning, Jared Nixon recorded a two-RBI single and Castellucci drove in his second RBI of the game to cap off the scoring.
  • Montevallo scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 12-1 lead.  The big play of the inning came when Jared Nixon tripled with the bases loaded to drive in three runs.
UP NEXT
Montevallo will host Union University in the final game of the series on Saturday, March 10th with the first pitch scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
