Falcons sweep Union in conference doubleheader

GAME 1 INFORMATION

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

·        Sophomore Haley Barnette finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run while driving in two runs and scoring two runs.

·        Freshman Carlee Mullinax also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.

·        Senior Darbi Duke finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles and recorded a team-high three stolen bases.

·        Senior Kelsey Vining went 1-for-3 at the plate with two stolen bases and scored one run.

·        Sophomores Mariel Bertossi and Brianna Stella each recorded a hit and drove in one run each.

·        Freshman Mychael McMillan registered the win in the circle and improved to 5-0 on the season after allowing just one hit in two scoreless innings in relief with two strikeouts.

·        Junior Jessica Boyd picked up her third save of the season after recording two strikeouts in one inning in relief.


HOW IT HAPPENED

·        Sophomore Haley Barnette gave Montevallo a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with her solo home run to left-center field.

·        The Falcons extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning when Barnette and sophomore Brianna Stella both scored on back-to-back walks with the bases loaded.

·        Union plated four runs in the top of the fourth inning to temporarily take a 4-3 lead in the contest.

·        Sophomore Holly LaForce scored on a RBI single to right field by sophomore Mariel Bertossi to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

       ·          Barnette scored on a RBI sacrifice fly to left field by senior Celestia Davila in the bottom of the fifth inning, which accounted for the game-winning run in the 5-4 victory.

·        Senior Kelsey Vining went 2-for-3 at the plate with a stolen base and scored one run.

·        Sophomores Mariel Bertossi and junior Lady Sarah Federico each went 1-for-2 at the plate and drove in one run each.

·        Senior Darbi Duke, sophomore Brianna Stella and freshman Carlee Mullinax also recorded one hit each.

·        Sophomore Abbey Pratt earned the win in the circle in relief after recording two strikeouts in two innings.

·        Junior Jessica Boyd earned her fourth save of the season after registering one strikeout in two innings in relief.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

·        Senior Darbi Duke reached on a walk and scored on a RBI single to right field by sophomore Mariel Bertossi to break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning and give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

·        Senior Kelsey Vining reached on a single and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by junior Lady Sarah Federico later in the frame to extend the Falcons' lead to 2-0.

·        After junior starter Amanda Ingram and sophomore Abbey Pratt combined for five scoreless innings, junior Jessica Boyd came in to record the close out the shut out and register the save.

The Falcons will take on the Bulldogs in the final game of the three-game Gulf South Conference series March 10 at Orr Park. First pitch is set for 10:30 a.m.
