Falcons Down Hawks 9-7 in Final Game of Inaugural Season

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team defeated the Shorter Hawks 9-7 in GLVC play and earned their first conference win of the season.
 
The Falcons finish their inaugural season with a 7-7 record overall and 1-4 in conference play.
 
Ryan Shea and Thomas Vaesen scored three goals in the Falcons' win.  Vaesen also assisted on two other goals in tonight's game.
 
Alex Dozzi, Kyle Nichols, and Blake Lowenberg also found goal for the Falcons in tonight's win.
 
Kyle Little had eight saves in the game and played all 60 minutes in goal.

KEY GOALS

1st, 12:20 | After getting down 1-0 early to the Hawks, Blake Lowenberg sunk the first goal for the Falcons to tie the game and started a three-goal run.  Spencer Seiler assisted Lowenberg on the opening goal.
 
1st, 10:34 | Kyle Nichols gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead when he connected off a pass from Thomas Vaesen.
 
1st, 3:50 | Ryan Shea capped off a three-goal run for the Falcons and made it 3-1 on an unassisted goal.
 
2nd, 10:59 | After a pair of goals from the Hawks, Alex Dozzi scored a man-up goal to put Montevallo back on top 4-3.


2nd, 4:02 | Thomas Vaesen scored the final goal of the first half to tie the game at 5-5.
 
3rd, 2:06 | Ryan Shea connected on a pass from Thomas Vaesen to keep the game tied at 6-6 after surrendering the lead midway through the period.
 
4th, 12:43 | Ryan Shae started a three-goal run for the Falcons to close out the game.  Shea and Nichols connected to tie the game at 7-7 early in the period.
 
4th, 7:40 | Thomas Vaesen put the Falcons back out front, 8-7, midway through the period.
 
4th, 6:23 | Thomas Vaesen scored the final goal of the game and sealed the 9-7 victory off a pass from Spencer Seiler.

GAME NOTES
  • Montevallo outshot Shorter 41-26 in the game.
  • Montevallo's defense forced Shorter into 19 turnovers in the game and also picked up 39 ground balls, including 14 ground balls in the final period.
  • Montevallo took advantage of extra-man opportunities and went 3-of-8 in the game while forcing Shorter to go 0-of-4.
