MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team fell at home for the first time this season, losing 47-38 to the visiting Valdosta State University Blazers in Gulf South Conference contest Jan. 24.
 
The Falcons (10-8 overall, 6-4 in Gulf South Conference) were outrebounded 49-32 by the Blazers, marking only the fifth time Montevallo has been outrebounded this season.
 
The Falcons played well defensively winning the turnover battle 25-17. However, Montevallo was only able to score 11 points off turnovers while the Blazers totaled 22 points off turnovers.
 
Montevallo shot just 22 percent from the floor (12-of-54), while the Blazers shot 31 percent (15-of-48) from the field in the game.
 
The Blazers opened the game on a 8-2 run capped by a free throw from Maddy Corazza. Valdosta State then closed out the second half on a 13-4 run capped by a pair of free throws from Shon Kitchens, to go in to halftime leading 28-18.
 
Montevallo opened the second half on a 9-0 run capped by a 3-pointer from Paige Ward. Valdosta State responded on a 7-5 run to end the period.
 
Down the stretch, Valdosta State outscored the Falcons 12-7 in the fourth period to hand the Falcons their first home loss of the season 47-38.
