Montevallo tops West Alabama 2-0 in GSC play

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo Men's Soccer Team defeated the University of West Alabama Tigers 2-0 at Georgine Lemak field in Montevallo, Alabama.
 
The rainy affair saw the Falcons control possession throughout, as well as the scoring.
 
Montevallo took the lead 1-0 in the first half on a brilliant cross and finish, and added another goal in the second in similar fashion off of a free kick.
 
Montevallo improved to 3-1 in Gulf South Conference play following the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
39' | Freshman Dairai Mahachi opened the scoring in the first half with a header off a cross from senior Daniel Muyambi.
60' | Senior Vladik Margolin added the second goal for the Falcons on a free kick from sophomore Ruben Carvalho.

GAME NOTES
  • Montevallo senior Robert Kuta earned the start at goalkeeper and made three total saves in his fifth shutout of the season.
  • Freshman Dairai Mahachi and senior Vladik Margolin each scored for the Falcons.
  • Sophomore Ruben Carvalho and senior Daniel Muyambi each registered an assist in the win.
  • West Alabama edged the Falcons 17-15 in total shots while Montevallo held the advantage 7-3 in shots on goal.
  • The Falcons possessed the ball 55% of the time throughout the match while the Tigers held just a 45% possession percentage.
  • Montevallo totaled six corner kicks tonight while the Tigers totaled four.
  • There were seven cautions in the match, four to the Tigers and three to the Falcons.
