HOOVER, Ala. – The University of Montevallo Volleyball team fell to the Saint Leo University Lions 3-0 and dropped a five-set match to the Embry-Riddle Eagles on day one of the Gulf South Conference Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
Montevallo fell to the Lions 25-16, 25-21 and 25-15 in three sets and fell to the Embry-Riddle Eagles 3-2 in five sets.
The Falcons fell to 10-11 following the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- Montevallo controlled the first set early, leading 9-5 after an ace from junior Amanda Nugent.
- The Lions went on a nine point run to take control of the match 14-9. St. Leo went on to win the first 25-16.
Set 2
- After battling early with the Lions in the second set, Montevallo led 15-11 following a kill from Brioni Dixon.
- St. Leo scored five straight points to take the lead 22-19 over the Falcons. The Lions went on to win 25-21.
SET 3
- St. Leo opened the third set on a four point run to lead 4-0 early on.
- The Falcons were unable to cut into the Lions' lead down the stretch and fell 25-15 in the final set.
Montevallo fell 3-0 to the Lions in the first match of the GSC/SSC Crossover Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- Embry-Riddle and Montevallo traded points in the early goings of the first set before the Eagles built a 15-10 lead over the Falcons.
- Montevallo cut the Eagles' deficit to two, 21-19 following a kill from Evelina Teran, however the Lions went on to win 25-20.
Set 2
- Montevallo opened the second set with a 7-4 lead over the Eagles following several errors by Embry-Riddle.
- Montevallo battled the Eagles the rest of the way. The Falcons built a 20-18 lead over Embry-Riddle following a service error. The Eagles responded with five straight points to lead 23-20 and went on to win the set 25-22.
SET 3
- Montevallo led Embry-Riddle 7-6 early in the third set, following a block from Brioni Dixon and Desiree Rodriguez.
- The Eagles jumped ahead of the Falcons 13-8 following four straight points after taking the lead.
- The Falcons tied the Eagles 23-23 following a kill from Evelina Teran and took the lead 24-23 on another kill b Teran.
- An attack error by the Eagles sealed the win for the Falcons 25-23.
SET 4
- The Eagles jumped out to an 8-4 lead over the Falcons to begin the fourth set.
- Montevallo scored seven straight points to take an 11-8 lead over Embry-Riddle.
- Montevallo extended the lead to 17-12 over the Eagles following an error.
- Amanda Nugent sealed the win for the Falcons 25-23 ove the Eagles with a kill.
SET 5
- After trading points with the Eagles, Montevallo fell 15-11 to Embry riddle in the fifth set.
Montevallo fell 3-2 to the Eagles in five sets.
