MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For the second-straight match, a late goal was the Montevallo Falcons' undoing, as a 90th-minute goal from Lucas Batistela lifted the Auburn University Montgomery Warhawks to a 1-0 victory in a Gulf South Conference match Tuesday night, Oct. 22 at the AUM Soccer Complex.
The Falcons and Warhawks waged a scoreless battle for 89-plus minutes before AUM's Rasheed Bolaji found Batistela, who fired a shot into the lower left corner of the net with just 40 seconds left in regulation to give AUM the conference win on its home pitch.
Tuesday's game was a make-up game, following an Oct. 18 game at AUM being called off in the 53rd minute due to a lighting issue at AUM Soccer Complex. UM led 2-1 at the time of the postponement. Due to rule, the make-up game started over as a new game.
Montevallo - which lost for the first time in the last six meetings in the all-time series - fell to 5-6-1 overall and 3-3 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Warhawks moved their record to 7-3-2 overall and 4-0-2 in the GSC.
