Montevallo Shuts Out CBU, Advances to GSC Semifinal

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Second-seeded Montevallo scored twice in the first six minutes of the match and cruised to a 2-0 victory over seven-seed Christian Brothers Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 12, in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament at Georgine Lemak Field.

With the win, Montevallo (13-3-3) will now take on sixth-seeded West Florida (12-5) in the semifinals on Friday in Pensacola, Fla. The kickoff time for that match hasn't been announced yet.

It took the Falcons only 4:14 to get on the board Tuesday, as Kira Bochard netted her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Medhali Hernandez, who chose a good time to pick up her first assist of the season.

Montevallo struck again 83 seconds later, as Tylor Ring put in her third goal of the campaign to make it 2-0 Falcons less than seven minutes into the match. Romee Contreras got the assist on Ring's goal, giving her a team high 10 helpers on the season.

The Montevallo defense took it from there, not allowing the Bucs (10-8-1) to get into an offensive groove and limiting Christian Brothers to only four shots (one on goal) in the match. The shutout is the Falcons' eighth of the season and Montevallo has now outscored the Bucs, 7-0, in two meetings this season.
