JACKSON, Tenn. - The University of Montevallo volleyball team took to the floor at the Fred Delay Gymnasium in Jackson, Tennessee on Saturday afternoon for their final road match of the 2019 regular season, knowing that their hopes of a bye in the first round of the Gulf South Conference tournament were very much tied to the result on the court. The Falcons needed a win to give themselves a realistic chance at taking one of the top four seeds in the GSC Championship, and facing a team also battling for one of those four spots, a win is exactly what they got.
Montevallo (18-12, 11-4 GSC) held Union University (Tenn.) (18-11, 10-4 GSC) to a .185 attack percentage in the match, as the Falcons avenged an earlier season loss to the Bulldogs with a straight sets win that vaulted Montevallo over Union in the GSC standings. The Falcons have a half-game lead on the Bulldogs, and they are percentage points behind the University of West Georgia for third in the conference, with only one match remaining on the UM regular season slate.
