Montevallo drops season-opening twin bill at Point Loma

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Davis Lott finished 1-for-2 at the plate and scored one run in his first game with the Falcons.
  • Senior Jason Cryar and junior Sebastian Samuels each went 1-for-4 at the plate.
  • Freshman Ben Teel drove in one run with a RBI sacrifice fly in his first collegiate game.
  • Senior Chrit Rudkin got the start on the mound and allowed just four hits in 4 2/3 scoreless frames with six strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Point Loma took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run homer by Otto Kemp and a solo shot by Micah Pries in back-to-back plate appearances.
  • The Falcons plated their lone run in the top of the eighth inning when junior Davis Lott led off the frame with a single and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by freshman Ben Teel

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Sebastian Samuels went 1-for-3 at the plate with a three-run homer as he drove in three runs and scored one run.
  • Senior Jason Cryar finished 2-for-5 at the plate with a double and scored one run.
  • Senior Khari Anderson went 2-for-5 at the plate and scored one run.
  • Junior Jake Morris finished 1-for-4 at the plate.
  • Senior Tyler Krabbe drove in one run and scored one run.
  • Junior Christian Simon registered six strikeouts while allowing two earned runs on four hits in 4 2/3 innings in relief in his first appearance with the Falcons.
  • Senior Jesse Ellefson recorded two strikeouts in 2/3 of an inning in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montevallo took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when senior Khari Anderson scored on an error by the Sea Lions.
  • Point Loma plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by Colby Kaneshiro and a RBI single by Travis Takata to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Micah Pries homered for the second time on the day and Brett O'Toole plated a run with a RBI single to give Point Loma a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
  • Junior Sebastian Samuels tied the game at 4-4 with his three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning.
  • Point Loma walked off with the win on a solo shot by Justin Ledgerwood in the bottom of the ninth inning.
UP NEXT

The Falcons will close out the three-game series on the road at Point Loma University with the third game scheduled for a 4 p.m. first pitch on Saturday, Feb. 2.
