Falcons defeat Birmingham-Southern 16-7

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team defeated Birmingham-Southern College 16-7 in a non-conference game Feb. 19.

Senior Jami Hudak scored a team-high five goals and recorded one assist as she compiled the 200th point of her collegiate career in the victory.

Junior Janey Johnson registered a team-high six assists as she recorded the 100th point in her collegiate career.

Freshman Hailey Wilcox added four goals in the win, while fellow freshman Anja Kuys contributed three goals.

Freshman Lovisa Stadelmann added two goals and one assist. Sophomores Elizabeth Tyler, who finished with one assist, and Caleigh Spoon contributed one goal each.

Sophomores Arianna Endelmann and Natalie Dicken recorded one assist each.

Senior Georgi Griffin controlled a team-high six draws and compiled a team-best seven ground balls.

Senior Irfana Ahmed registered six saves in the contest.

KEY GOALS

1st (25:56) | Senior Jami Hudak scored the first goal in the contest off an assist from junior Janey Johnson.

1st (17:50) | Hudak scored the third of three consecutive goals off an assist from freshman Lovisa Stadelmann to open the game, a memorable goal giving her a 200th point in her collegiate career and the Falcons a 3-0 lead.

1st (7:46) | Katie Gleeson scored an unassisted goal with the Panthers playing a man up to put Birmingham-Southern on the scoreboard and trim the Falcons' lead to 4-1.

1st (2:18) | Freshman Anja Kuys scored her first goal in the game, unassisted, to push the Falcons' lead to 6-1.

2nd (26:13) | Jade Cox scored an unassisted goal as the Panthers added two goals early in the second half to trim the Montevallo lead to 7-4.

2nd (20:27) | Hudak started a 6-0 run by the Falcons in the second half with her goal off an assist from junior Janey Johnson.

2nd (5:16) | Stadelmann capped the scoring run by Montevallo with her goal off an assist from Hudak, which gave the Falcons a 14-5 lead at the time.

2nd (2:35) | Hudak scored the Falcons' final goal off an assist from Johnson to give Montevallo its first double-digit lead in the game at 16-6.

GAME NOTES
  • Montevallo finished with a 31-21 edge in shots attempted in the contest.
  • The Falcons led the Panthers with a 42-33 edge in ground balls in the victory.
  • Montevallo successfully cleared 12-of-27 attempts, while Birmingham-Southern finished 11-of-28 in clear attempts.
  • The Falcons controlled 14 draws in the game compared to 11 draws controlled by the Panthers.
