Falcons fall to Chargers 12-5 in conference game

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse fell to visiting Alabama-Huntsville 12-5 in a Gulf South Conference contest Feb. 27.
 
Senior Nabyl Jimenez, along with sophomores Arianna Endelmann and Natalie Dicken and freshman Anja Kuys and Crystal Williams scored one goal each.
 
Kuys and junior Janey Johnson recorded one assist each.
 
Senior Irfana Ahmed registered 12 saves in the contest and finished with a .500 save percentage.

KEY GOALS

1st (27:48) | Nicole Federovitch scored the second back-to-back unassisted goals to open the contest for the Chargers.  
 
1st (23:20) | Sophia Fiorino scored a goal off an assist from Megan Hartnett to give the Chargers a 5-0 lead early in the game.
 
1st (21:04) | Freshman Anja Kuys scored the Falcons' first goal in the game to trim the deficit to 5-1.
 
1st (11:38) | Senior Nabyl Jimenez scored an unassisted goal to trim the Chargers' lead to 6-2 at the time.
 
1st (7:53) | Sophomore Natalie Dicken scored a goal off an assist from Kuys with 7:53 remaining in the first half to cut the Alabama-Huntsville lead to 7-3 at the time.
 
2nd (20:44) | Katie Gerber scored an  unassisted goal to cap a run of four consecutive goals by the Chargers as they extended their lead to 11-3.
 
2nd (9:30) | Sophomore Arianna Endelmann scored an unassisted goal in the late stages of the second half.
 
2nd (1:49) | Freshman Crystal Williams scored a goal off an assist from junior Janey Johnson in the final two minutes.

GAME NOTES
  • The Chargers outshot the Falcons 35-15 in the contest.
  • Montevallo finished with 26 turnovers compared to 20 turnovers by Alabama-Huntsville.
  • Alabama-Huntsville successfully cleared 19-of-22 attempts, while the Falcons finished 14-of-21 in clear attempts.
  • The Chargers finished with a 11-8 advantage in draws controlled.
