MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team fell at home to Delta State University 76-58 in a Gulf South Conference contest Feb. 28 at Trustmark Arena in Montevallo, Alabama.
Montevallo shot 37 percent (21-of-56) from the floor and 25 percent (3-of-12) from beyond the arc while the Delta State shot 37 percent (24-of-64) from the floor and 26 percent (5-of-19) from beyond the arc.
Delta State owned a 47-31 rebound advantage, including a 18-8 advantage on the offensive glass.

Montevallo (12-16 overall, 8-12 in Gulf South Conference) opened the contest with a 4-0 run, capped with a layup by freshman Shyan Flack with 8:25 remaining in the first period, before the Lady Statesmen ended the period with a 15-12 lead.
Delta State opened the second period with a 12-4 run to give to lead 27-16. Montevallo sophomore Paige Ward ended the Delta State run with a three pointer, with 5:10 remaining in the period to trail 27-19.
The Falcons closed out the second period on a 12-3 run capped by a layup from sophomore Kourtine Smith, to carry a 31-30 lead in to halftime.
Delta State took the lead 34-32 with 7:29 remaining in the third period. The Lady Statesmen led 52-42 at the end of the period.
Delta State led by as many as 20 points in the fourth period to win 76-58.
The Lady Statesmen were a perfect 16-16 from the free throw line in the second half.
Junior Aaliyah Rice led the Falcons with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor.
