MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team beat the Newberry College Wolves 21-10 in their season opening game.
Senior Jami Hudak scored a team-leading five goals in the win for Montevallo.
Junior Janey Johnson scored four goals to go along with three assists.
Freshman Anja Kuys and junior Sydny Dudley each scored three goals and totaled one assist.
Senior Nabyl Jimenez and sophomore Arianna Endelmann chipped in two goals each.
Freshman Sadie Bopst and sophomore Natalie Dicken each added one goal. Dicken also recorded one assist.
Freshmen Halee Macias and Crystal Williams each recorded one assist.
Sophomore Caleigh Spoon led the falcons in ground balls with seven.
Macias totaled four caused turnovers for the Falcons defensively.
Senior goalkeeper Irfana Ahmed totaled four saves in the win.

1st, 28:09 | Senior Jami Hudak scored the first goal of the season for the Falcons, unassisted, to lead 1-0.
1st, 22:16 | The Falcons extended their lead to 4-0 after junior Janey Johnson scored her first goal of the season, unassisted.
1st, 14:20 | After Newberry was able to find the back of the net for their first goal of the game, Hudak scored unassisted, capping a four goal scoring run by the Falcons, to lead 8-1.
1st, 3:27 | Hudak scored the final goal of the half for the Falcons off an assist from Johnson, giving Montevallo the 10-4 lead at halftime.
2nd, 26:35 | After a quick goal from the Wolves to being the half, Montevallo rattled off three straight goals to lead 13-5, when Johnson scored off an assist from freshman Halee Macias.
2nd, 16:51 | Freshman Anja Kuys capped a three goal run by the Falcons, scoring unassisted, to give Montevallo the 18-8 lead.
2nd, 1:03 | Sophomore Natalie Dicken scored the final goal of the game for Montevallo, and her first goal of the season, extending the Falcons' lead to 21-10.
GAME NOTES
- Montevallo out shot Newberry 40-21 in the contest, including a 28-16 edge in shots on goal.
- The Falcons forced 29 turnovers by the Wolves and recorded 35 ground balls.
- The Wolves were awarded six free positions shots, to the Falcons' five.
