Falcons fall to Coker College 12-9 on the road

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team fell to Coker College 12-9 on the road in non-conference play. 
 
Sophomore Kordell Primus scored a game-high five goals to lead the Falcons, who dropped to 3-7 overall this season.
 
Sophomore Thomas Vaesen added three goals, with his third goal accounting for his 100th total point in his collegiate career.
 
Freshman Dante Cloutier added one goal.
 
Freshman Connor Frederick totaled a team-high two assists, while fellow freshman Jackson Neufeld and sophomore Ryan Shea each added one assist.  
 
Freshman Dylan Witt complied a team-high four caused turnovers along with two ground balls.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Little finished with 13 saves and a team-high seven ground balls. 

KEY GOALS

1st (13:40) | Sophomore Kordell Primus scored the first goal in the contest, unassisted, to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
 
1st (03:01) | Primus tied the game 2-2, scoring unassisted.

1st (09:21) | Sophomore Thomas Vaesen tied the game 3-3 scoring off an assist from freshman Connor Frederick.
 
2nd(01:11) | Primus found the back of the net off an assist from freshman Jackson Neufeld, ending a four-goal run by Coker, to trail 7-4.
 
2nd (00:17) | Vaesen scored unassisted, in a man-down situation, to cut the Coker lead to 8-5 at the half.
 
3rd (06:06) | Vaesen scored his hat-trick goal off an assist by sophomore Ryan Shea as the Falcons trailed Coker 9-6.
 
4th (14:41) | Primus cut Coker's lead to 9-7 in the early stages of the fourth period, scoring unassisted in a man-up situation.
 
4th (05:56) | After another goal by Coker, Primus netted his fifth goal of the day to cut Cokers' lead back to two, 10-8, off an assist by Frederick
4th (02:57) | Freshman Dante Cloutier netted his first goal of the game, unassisted, to trial Coker 12-9.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Montevallo outshot the Cobras 44-36 in the game, but Coker finished with a 25-20 edge in shots on goal.
  • Montevallo converted 2-of-5 extra-man opportunities, while the Cobras were 0-of-4 in man-up situations.
  • Montevallo turned the ball over 16 times compared to 18 by the Cobras.
  • The Cobras finished with a 16-8 edge in face offs in the contest.
  • Montevallo finished 15-of-22 in clear attempts while Newberry finished 15-of-17.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, March 30 with a conference match on the road at the University of Alabama in Huntsville at 7 p.m.
