Falcons drop doubleheader on road at Spring Hill

GAME 1 INFORMATION

Score: Spring Hill 7, Montevallo 5
Records: Montevallo (17-17) | Spring Hill (12-16)

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Spring Hill took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a by Delaney Thomas.
  • The Falcons took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run blast to left field by junior Haley Barnette.
  • The Badgers answered with a two-run single up the middle by Carmen Byrd in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead.
  • Spring Hill extended its lead to 7-2 with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, highlighted with a two-run double by Hannah Fillmore.
  • Montevallo plated two runs in the top of the fifth inning when junior Brianna Stella scored on an error by the Badgers and Barnette drove in a run with her RBI double to trim the deficit to 7-4.
  • The Falcons cut the Spring Hill lead to 7-5 on a RBI groundout by Stella in the top of the seventh inning but couldn't plate the tying run.

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montevallo took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a RBI sacrifice fly by junior Mariel Bertossi.
  • Spring Hill tied the game in the bottom of the second inning on a Cassidy Mehr before taking  a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a solo  home run by Delaney Thomas.
  • The Falcons tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning on another RBI sacrifice fly by Bertossi.
  • The Badgers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead following a pair of RBI singles by Carmen Byrd and Thomas.
  • Montevallo trimmed the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning following a RBI single by Bertossi, but a deep fly ball by junior Haley Barnette fell short of the fence with the bases loaded with two outs to end the game.
UP NEXT

The Falcons will return to Gulf South Conference play this weekend with a three-game series on the road at Mississippi College. First pitch in the series opener is set for Friday, March 29 at 6 p.m.
