Mullinax homer helps Falcons clinch conference series against Choctaws

GAME 1 INFORMATION

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Haley Barnette finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and a double while driving in three runs and scoring one run.
  • Senior Lady Sarah Federico went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and drove in two runs.
  • Junior Mariel Bertossi finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and scored two runs.
  • Sophomore Carlee Mullinax went 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run.
  • Junior Brianna Stella went 1-for-4 at the plate and scored one run.
  • Senior Marisa Sosa went 1-for-4 at the plate and scored one run.
  • Sophomore Brooke Ingram finished 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run.
  • Sophomore Caroline Pope went 1-for-4 at the plate.
  • Junior Annie Adamos and sophomore Bayleigh Lott scored one run each.
  • Senior Abbey Pratt pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief while allowing two hits and striking out one batter. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Montevallo scored two runs in the top of the first inning following RBI singles by sophomore Carlee Mullinax and senior Lady Sarah Federico to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Mississippi College tied the game at 2-2 on a solo homer by Carly Crawford and a RBI sacrifice bunt by Gracie Trahan in the bottom of the second inning.
  • Federico drove in a run with a RBI double in the top of the third inning to push the Falcons' lead to 3-2.
  • The Falcons took a 5-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning when a run scored on a RBI single by sophomore Brook Ingram and junior Brianna Stella scored on a wild pitch.
  • The Choctaws cut the Falcons' lead to 5-4 on a two-run single by Trahan in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • Montevallo plated its final three runs on a three-run home run by junior Haley Barnette in the top of the seventh inning.

  • Sophomore Carlee Mullinax went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and a double while driving in two runs and scoring one run.
  • Sophomore Caroline Pope finished 1-for-3 at the plate and scored one run.
  • Junior Holly LaForce went 1-for-3 at the plate.
  • Junior Haley Barnette finished 1-for-3 at the plate.
  • Senior Lady Sarah Federico went 1-for-4 at the plate.
  • Junior Mariel Bertossi scored two runs, while sophomore Alexis Cortez scored one run in the win.
  • Senior Abbey Pratt pitched two scoreless innings in relief and struck out two batters while earning the win in the circle.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Mississippi College plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by Carly Crawford and a two-run single by Alexia Harmon to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Falcons trimmed the Choctaws' lead to 3-2 when junior Mariel Bertossi and sophomore Alexis Cortez scored on a groundout by senior Lady Sarah Federico in the top of the fourth inning.
  • The Choctaws added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run homer by Kristen Qualls to push their lead to 5-2.
  • Montevallo trimmed the Choctaws' lead to 5-3 when sophomore Caroline Pope stole third base before scoring on an error by Mississippi College.
  • The Falcons took the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning on a three-run home run to left field by sophomore Carlee Mullinax.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will travel to Tuskegee, Alabama to take on Tuskegee University in a doubleheader Wednesday, April 3 starting at 1 p.m.
