Vaesen leads Falcons to 30-8 win on road at Shorter in conference play

ROME, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team solidified its standing for the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a 30-8 win on the road at Shorter University in its final regular season game April 19.

Sophomore Thomas Vaesen tied his career-high with 11 goals, which included his 100th goal of his collegiate career, as the Falcons improved to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Montevallo outscored the Hawks by 22 goals and surpassed Young Harris and Maryville in goal differential, which is part of a tiebreaker for the upcoming conference tournament in a potential three-way tie.

Sophomore Ryan Shea added four goals, while sophomore Kordell Primus and freshman Andru Ross added three goals each.
Freshmen Connor Frederick and Dante Cloutier added two goals each.

Freshman Luke Stephens won 34-of-42 face-off attempts, which set a new NCAA Division II record for face offs won in a game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Little registered 13 saves in the victory.

KEY GOALS

1st (14:17) | Freshman Dante Cloutier scored a goal off an assist from sophomore Ryan Shea in the opening minute of the game to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
1st (11:48) | Sophomore Kordell Primus scored a goal off an assist from Shea to push the Falcons' lead to 3-0.
1st (4:55) | Sophomore Thomas Vaesen scored a goal on a man-up situation to cap a 5-0 scoring run by the Falcons to open the game.
1st (4:42) | Jordan Coates scored a goal off an assist from Chris Woodward for the first Shorter goal in the contest.
1st (4:30) | Vaesen scored an unassisted goal to cap a 4-0 scoring run by the Falcons late in the first quarter as the Falcons left little doubt in the outcome against the Hawks by the end of the first quarter.
3rd (14:03) | Vaesen's first goal in the second half marked the 100th goal he has scored in his collegiate career.

The Falcons will now await the results from this weekend's conference games to determine seeding for the GLVC Tournament.
