Montevallo ends season with doubleheader split against UAH

GAME 1 INFORMATION

Score: Montevallo 5, Alabama-Huntsville 3
Records: Montevallo (24-26 overall, 12-17 in GSC) | Alabama-Huntsville (36-13 overall, 20-8 in GSC)

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Mariel Bertossi finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the fifth inning while driving in two runs and scoring two runs to help the Falcons temporarily keep their postseason hopes alive.
  • Sophomore Carlee Mullinax went 1-for-2 at the plate with a home run while driving in one run and scoring one run.
  • Sophomore Brooke Ingram finished 1-for-3 at the plate and scored one run.
  • Junior Holly LaForce went 1-for-3 at the plate.
  • Junior Haley Barnette drove in one run in the win.
  • Junior Brianna Stella scored one run in the victory.
  • Senior Abbey Pratt earned the win in the circle after allowing three earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks in five innings.
  • Senior Alexis Bonanno registered her first save of the season after pitching two scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts and one walk.
     
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when junior Haley Barnette drove in a run with a RBI fielder's choice and junior Mariel Bertossi scored on an error by the Chargers.
  • Montevallo extended its lead to 3-0 following a solo home run by sophomore Carlee Mullinax in the bottom of the third inning.
  • The Chargers tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning following a RBI double by Mackenzie Nutt and a two-run double by Amber Hammonds.
  • The Falcons took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning on the go ahead two-run home run by Bertossi, which set a new team record for home runs in a single season with 26.
GAME 2 INFORMATION

Score: Alabama-Huntsville 12, Montevallo 7

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Carlee Mullinax finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, which set a new program record with her ninth homer of the season, while driving in three runs and scoring one run.
  • Junior Mariel Bertossi went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double while driving in one run and scoring one run.
  • Senior Lady Sarah Federico finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.
  • Senior Marisa Sosa went 1-for-3 at the plate with a triple while driving in one run and scoring one run.
  • Junior Haley Barnette finished 1-for-3 at the plate and scored one run.
  • Junior Brianna Stella went 1-for-5 at the plate while driving in one run and scoring one run.
  • Sophomores Brooke Ingram and Caroline Pope scored one run each.
  • Sophomore Mychael McMillan pitched four innings in relief and allowed just one earned run with two strikeouts and one walk.
     
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Chargers plated three runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Montevallo scored seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 7-3 lead following a three-run homer by sophomore Carlee Mullinax and a RBI triple by senior Marisa Sosa, who scored on an error by the Chargers, and RBI singles by juniors Mariel Bertossi and Brianna Stella.
  • The Chargers scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 8-7 lead, highlighted with solo home runs by Shannon Long and Kiara Akles.
  • Alabama-Huntsville scored its final three runs in the top of the seventh inning, capped with a two-run single by Mackenzie Nutt, to eliminate the Falcons from postseason contention.
