Falcons take down Shorter 17-6 in conference play

ROME, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team defeated host Shorter University 17-6 in a Gulf South Conference game April 7 while sweeping the series against the Hawks.

Senior Jami Hudak and freshman Hailey Wilcox scored three goals each for the Falcons, who improved to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in Gulf South Conference play.

Senior Nabyl Jimenez and juniors Meghan Shea and Sydny Dudley scored two goals each.

Senior Georgi Griffin, junior Janey Johnson, sophomores Natalie Dicken and freshmen Adriana Perro and Crystal Williams scored one goal each.

Johnson finished with a team-high six assists while compiling a team-best seven points in the victory.

Hudak, Dudley and freshman Anja Kuys finished with two assists each.

Senior Irfana Ahmed registered 11 saves in the victory.


KEY GOALS


1st (28:40) | Senior Jami Hudak scored the first goal of the game on a man-up opportunity off an assist from Anja Kuys.

1st (25:32) | Junior Meghan Shea scored off an assist from sophomore Caleigh Spoon to cap a 5-0 scoring run by the Falcons in the first five minutes of the game.

1st (20:03) | McKinley Puckett scored the first goal of the game, unassisted, for the Hawks.

1st (14:57) | Freshman Hailey Wilcox scored an unassisted goal to give the Falcons a 8-1 lead.

1st (3:23) | Wilcox scored an unassisted goal to give Montevallo its first double-digit lead, 12-2, late in the first half.

2nd (18:51) | Hudak scored the second of back-to-back goals assisted by junior Janey Johnson to help Montevallo extend its lead to 15-3.

2nd (3:36) | Freshman Adriana Perro scored an unassisted goal in a man-down situation to cap the scoring for the Falcons.
 
GAME NOTES

  • Montevallo outscored Shorter by 11 goals despite the Hawks 27-26 advantage in shots attempted.
  • Montevallo successfully cleared 26-of-29 attempts, while Shorter finished 23-of-27 in clear attempts.
  • The Hawks controlled 12 draws compared the Falcons' nine draws controlled.
  • Shorter finished with a 9-6 edge in free-position shots.
