Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo Women's Soccer Team topped the Valdosta State Blazers 2-1 in the first Gulf South Conference game of the season. The Falcons' 2-1 win is the first win ever over Valdosta State. Montevallo took the lead in early in the match following a goal from freshman Kaeri Ward, assisted by junior Hannah Waki. Montevallo added to its lead late in the second half when junior Allye Darnell found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Romee Contreras. The Falcons' only blemish of the season is to NCAA Division 1 opponent La. Tech.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
22' | Freshman Kaeri Ward scored the opening goal of the match, assisted by junior Hannah Waki.
41' | Junior Allye Darnell extended the Falcons' lead to 2-0 over Valdosta State. Sophomore Romee Contreras assisted on the goal.   
79' | Valdosta State scored for the first time in the match when Lauren Hicks found the back of the net.

GAME NOTES

• Montevallo topped Valdosta State 2-1 in its first GSC win of the season.
• The Falcons featured two different goal scorers this afternoon, both of which scored their second goals of the season. Kaeri Ward and Allye Darnell each scored for Montevallo.
• Ward and sophomore Kristen Chance each led the Falcons in shots on goal with two each. Chance also led the Falcons in shots with five.
• Hannah Waki and Romee Contreras each registered an assist for the Falcons.
• Sophomore Annie Mason recorded two saves for Montevallo.
• Montevallo edged Valdosta State in shots 17-9 in shots and 8-3 in shots on goal.
• Montevallo totaled three corners while Valdosta totaled one.
