MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team was handed its first loss in Trustmark Arena since 2017 tonight. The Union University Bulldogs topped Montevallo 3-1 in Gulf South Conference Play.
After alternating the first two sets, Union took the final two winning the match 3-1 overall.
The Falcons dropped to 7-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Union improved to 8-5 and 2-0 in the GSC.

Michaela Henderson reach career milestone tonight and registered her 1,000
th career dig in the setback.

- Brioni Dixon led the Falcons offensive attack with 13 kills in the match.
- Desiree Rodriguez totaled nine kills while Hannah Fernandez and Evelina Teran chipped in seven and eight respectively.
- Savannah Roys was the Falcons' leader in assists with 37.
- Teran also totaled a team-high and career-high 21 digs in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- Union controlled the first set early after jumping out to a 3-0 lead.
- After falling behind 12-7, Montevallo responded to get within one of the bulldogs, 15-14, following a kill from Evelina Teran and a Union error.
- Union responded with a five point run to lead the Falcons 20-15 in the first.
- Down five, Montevallo scored five straight points to get within one point 20-19, following four Union errors and a kill from Brioni Dixon.
- After trading points late in the set, Union took the first set 25-22.
Set 2
- Montevallo controlled the tempo early in the second and jumped out to an 8-4 lead over the Bulldogs.
- Montevallo extended its lead to 22-13 over the Bulldogs following a six point run which included two service aces from Michaela Henderson, a kill from Hannah Fernandez, and three Union errors.
- The Falcons closed out the second set with three straight points to win 25-15.
SET 3
- The Falcons led 2-0 early in the first set. Union responded with four straight points, taking the lead 4-2.
- After falling behind 9-7, the Falcons responded tying the game 9-9 following another ace from Henderson.
- With Montevallo trailing 13-12, Union went on a nine point run to lead the Falcons 22-12 in the third.
- Montevallo only scored two point the rest of the set. Union took the third set 25-14.
SET 4
- Union again controlled the momentum early in the fourth set after jumping out to a 7-2 lead over the Falcons.
- Montevallo came within four points of Union 14-10, following a four point run which included a kill from Fernandez and Teran.
- Montevallo was unable to trim the deficit the rest of the way and fell 25-18 to Union in the fourth set.
The Falcons dropped their first game in Trustmark Arena since 2017, 3-1 to the Union Bulldogs.
