Quintet of Falcons score double digits as Montevallo rolls

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Montevallo women's head coach Gary van Atta got a little bit of everything from his starting five in the Falcons' 91-79 victory at Christian Brothers on Saturday afternoon.

Shyan Flack, who scored a then career-high 25 points against CBU last season, continued to torment the Lady Bucs as the sophomore from Somerville, Ala., poured in a team-high 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting, including two from the free throw line and one from behind the 3-point arc, and brought down a team-high eight rebounds in 33 minutes of game action. Kiya Sain and Aaliyah Rice combined for 24 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals, while Paige Ward knocked down a game-high five 3-point baskets en route to scoring 17 points.

However, through it all, Marisa Snodgrass had all eyes on herself as the freshman guard nearly recorded her first career triple-double, but settled for 13 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds in 35 minutes. Twelve of her 13 points came on four made 3-pointers. It was, however, the first career double-double for the freshman from Hazel Green, Ala.

Christian Brothers (4-8, 3-5) took an early 22-18 lead after the first quarter, but Montevallo (12-2, 6-1) responded by outscoring the Lady Bucs, 29-24, during the game's second 10-minute segment and took a 47-46 lead into the locker rooms for halftime. But it was the 23-9 third quarter in favor of the Falcons that provided to be the difference as Montevallo shot 50 percent (9-18) from the field, while holding Christian Brothers to only four made field goals during the quarter.

Montevallo will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 16 when the Falcons host Lee University (15-1, 7-1) at 5:30 p.m.
