Fourth quarter dooms Falcons at Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. — A nine-point fourth-quarter advantage for Clark Atlanta was the difference as Montevallo fell to the Panthers, 65-59, on Saturday afternoon.

The loss for Montevallo, which had won its previous two games, drops the Falcons to 14-4 on the season with an 8-2 conference mark heading into Thursday's Gulf South Conference game at the University of West Alabama. The two teams met just a week ago with UM earning the victory, 71-61, as Shyan Flack pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds en route to her eight double-double on the season.

Against Clark Atlanta, Montevallo led 18-14 after the first 10 minutes, then 36-30 at halftime. Even though the Panthers outscored the Falcons, 13-10, during the fourth quarter, UM still took a 46-43 lead into the fourth quarter.

However, during the final 10-minute segment, Clark Atlanta (6-12, 4-5) made 7 of 10 shots from the free throw line, while — for the first time all game — Montevallo did not shoot free throws during the quarter. The productivity at the free throw line provided the difference as — from the field — the Panthers made only one more shot (7-15) than the Falcons (6-15) with both teams making only one 3-pointer during the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, Marisa Snodgrass turned in another GSC-Freshman-of-the-Week caliber performance as the Hazel Green, Ala., native scored a career-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including knocking down all four shots behind the 3-point arc. She also converted both free throw attempts, credited with four steals and pulled down two rebounds in 30 minutes of game action.

Shyan Flack just missed her ninth double-double of the season as the senior finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, three steals, three assists and two blocks. Aaliyah Rice continued her strong post-play as she finished with 13 points to round out Montevallo's trio of double-digit scorers.
