SERIES HISTORY
  • The two teams split their two regular-season matchups during the 2018-19 season as each team won of its home court. Montevallo won, 67-65, in Montevallo on Jan. 24, before Valdosta State won, 75-70, in Valdosta on Jan. 31.
  • Montevallo and Valdosta State met for a three-overtime thriller on Dec. 16, 2017 with the Blazers winning 139-135. During the game, Chris Williams, who finished with 36 points and 11 rebounds, played all 55 minutes and knocked down 17 of 19 free throws.
  • Montevallo did not host Valdosta State in a true home game until Jan. 20, 1996 — after playing three neutral-site games and one at Valdosta State. The Blazers won, 83-80, in the first game played at Montevallo in the series history.

TEAM HIGHLIGHTS

MONTEVALLO
  • In their first game back from injury, Wade Lowman and Ivan Smith showed very little rust. In 35 minutes of game action, Lowman scored 14 points, brought down three rebounds, dished out an assist and blocked a shot. Smith scored seven points in 20 minutes, while also being credited with two steals and two assists.
  • Since scoring only four points on Jan. 6, 2020, Jonas Parker has been on a tear as the junior has scored 19, 29, 26 and 15 points in Montevallo's last four games.
  • Montevallo's current four-game losing streak is the longest for the Falcons since dropping nine straight from Jan. 26, 2019 to Feb. 23, 2019.

VALDOSTA STATE
  • It's simple; Valdosta State leads the Gulf South Conference in scoring … by a lot. Through 18 games, the Blazers average 89.7 points, while the next closest team – West Georgia – averages only 77.7 points a contest.
  • VSU, like Montevallo, features two players who rank in the top 10 in scoring in the league. Bryce Smith is ranked eighth with 15.7 points a game, while Darrell Jones is next in line with 15.5 points a contest.
  • Valdosta State hasn't lost since Dec. 17, 2019 when the Lee upended the Blazers 88-74. Since then, VSU has scored 90-or-more points in six of its next eight games, including going over the century mark (103) against Delta State.
