CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team finished the 2019-2020 season with a 89-78 loss at Delta State on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons finish the regular season with a 12-16 overall record and 8-12 in the GSC. They are the #8 seed in the GSC and will play at the #1 seed, Valdosta State, on GSC Super Tuesday, March 3. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The Falcons were led by
Cedric Jackson who finished the day with 23 points.
Romario Spence had his first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Three other Falcons posted double figures in scoring with
Jonas Parker's 11 points, Xavier Macolm had 10 points and
Ivan Smith finished with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Montevallo led 11-7 at the 14:53 media timeout.
- Back-to-back buckets from the Falcons cut the Statesmen's lead to one, 27-26 with 3:38 on the first half clock.
- A last second three before the half from Romario Spence cut Delta State's lead to seven, 36-29. Cedric Johnson led Montevallo with 13 points.
- The Falcons trailed by nine, 47-38 at the 15:47 media timeout.
- The Statesmen's 9-0 run extended their lead to 18, 60-42 with 12:25 on the clock.
- Montevallo returned from the media timeout with a 7-0 run cutting the Statesmen's lead to nine, 72-63.
- A pair of free throws gave Delta State an 11-point lead, 77-66 with 2:29 left in the half.
- UM was unable to mount comeback and went on to lose 89-79.
