MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Montevallo dropped both games of the doubleheader, and the series, to Auburn University Montgomery on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons came up short in game one, falling to AUM 6-5. Starting pitcher Senior
Gus Cunningham allowed five runs, four earned runs, six strikeouts and two walks in five innings.
AUM put two runs on the board in the first and third innings and added a solo run in the fifth.
The Falcons scored four runs in the bottom of the third, all with two-outs, on a two-run double by freshman
Asa Awbrey, an RBI single by sophomore
Ben Teel and a double to left-center by senior
Davis Lott.
Awbry had two assists in the game, throwing out Warhawk runners trying to advance to third in both the fifth and sixth innings, ending AUM threats.
Freshman
Khalid Collymore made a spectacular diving catch in the eighth, running in on a sinking line drive.
AUM added an insurance run in the top of the eighth, pushing their lead to 6-4.
The Falcons added a run in the bottom of the eighth with a Teel was hit by pitch, Lott single to left and freshman
Mitch Fleming two-out single, driving in Teel.
Montevallo went one-two-three in the ninth despite two hard hit balls by senior
Sebastian Samuels and Awbry.
Warhawks pitcher Troy Jones threw a complete game, giving up seven hits, five earned runs, no walks and 11 strikeouts.
AUM (6-10) used timely hitting and got great bullpen performances to take game two 7-2.
Falcons' game-two starting pitcher senior
Chandler Ingram, who threw the ninth inning of game one, got out of a first inning, bases-loaded no outs, jam by striking out the side. The three first-inning strikeouts were three of his ten strikeouts in the doubleheader.
The Falcons struck first, in the bottom of the first, when senior
Jake Morris led off the inning with a hit by pitch and later scored on a Teel sacrifice fly to center field.
AUM tied the game with a run in the top of the second inning.
Montevallo (9-8) answered back in the second with a double by senior
Ryan Brooks and an RBI single by freshman
Reed Latimer.
The Warhawks scored two unearned runs in the top of the fifth to take their first lead of the game, 3-2. They added four runs in the seventh to close out the scoring and take the 7-2 win. ..
