BIRMINGHAM, Ala - The University Montevallo baseball team collected a 2-1 victory Wednesday afternoon against Miles College at Historic Rickwood Field. Montevallo got great pitching throughout the game and executed their small-ball offense late in the game to knock off the Golden Bears.

The Falcons pitching staff yielded only 6 total hits on the day, with the bullpen throwing seven innings of shut out relief. Starter
Ryan Duncan threw 2.0 innings, striking out 2, and allowing 1 earned run.Â

Daniel Buice, and
Chandler Ingram combined for 6 strikeouts and allowed just 3 hits in their 7 innings of scoreless relief. Ingram earned his fifth win of the season.

The Falcons broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the ninth inning with a
Jake Smallwood squeeze bunt that scored pinch runner
Matt Simon.Â
Evan Liddie started the ninth with a lead off walk. Simon pinch ran for Liddie and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Ryan Brooks. Â Liddie moved up to third on a wild pitch and scored off of the Smallwood squeeze.

Asa Awbry led the Falcons offensively with two doubles and a run scored. Awbry now leads Montevallo with a .412 batting average, 17 runs scored, 8 doubles, and 2 triples.

NEXT UP: The Falcons return home for a nonconference weekend series against Florida Southern. The Mocs are 14-8 and have won their last three games. First pitch is set for Friday March 13 at 6:00 PM.
